THETA PHI ALPHA

Founded at Behrend on December 3rd, 1994.

Theta Phi Alpha was founded in 1912 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, under the guidance of Father Edward D. Kelly. Theta Phi Alpha originally began as a Catholic fraternity because other Greek-lettered sororities on campus would not allow Catholic women to join, but has since opened its doors to women of all faiths. The mission of Theta Phi Alpha is to create close comradeship; to advance educational, social and philanthropic interests and leadership training; to encourage spiritual development and adherence to the highest moral standards; and to promote lifelong bonds of friendship. Theta Phis are an ambitious, eclectic group of women, with an appreciation for self-respect, curiosity, and genuineness. They strive to work hard and laugh often.

PHI SIGMA RHO

Founded at Behrend on February 28th, 2016.

Phi Sigma Rho was founded in 1984 by Abby MacDonald and Rashmi Khanna at Purdue University. The two were unable to join regular sororities due to the rigors of engineering coursework, so they decided to start their own sorority. Soon after, the first chapter of Phi Sigma Rho was formed with ten founding members. Phi Sigma Rho's mission is to serve their sisters and their community through the promotion of high standards of personal integrity, respect, and character. In addition, another goal is to promote lifelong bonds of sisterhood, and academic and professional excellence with a social balance through shared experiences, common bonds, and recognition of service and achievements.
